Total cost by week
The last 8 weeks ending with the week above. Tap a bar to open that week.
Installers this week
Estimate only. This follows the federal piece-rate overtime method, but it is not payroll or legal advice. Have your CPA or payroll provider confirm the rules before you pay from it.
Piece rates
What an installer earns for each unit of work. These are starting values from the commission app. Change anything and every week recalculates.
Hourly and overtime rules
Texas follows the federal minimum wage of $7.25 and has no separate state overtime law. If you pay in a state with higher rules, enter its numbers here.
Employer payroll costs (estimate)
Employer share only. 7.65% is the standard Social Security and Medicare rate. Use "other" for unemployment tax and workers' comp if you want them rolled into the cost. Ask your payroll provider for the exact figure.
How the overtime is figured
The piece-rate method used here
- Add up everything earned for the week: piece pay, hourly pay for meetings and training, and any bonus that was promised in advance (like the no-callback bonus).
- Divide by all hours worked, including meetings and training. That is the regular rate for the week.
- Hours over the overtime line get an extra half of the regular rate. The piece pay already covers the "straight time" part of those hours.
- If total pay divided by hours would fall below minimum wage, the difference is added as a top-up.
- A bonus you decide on after the fact, with no promise, is listed separately and kept out of the regular rate.
Meetings and training count as hours worked. Hours have to be tracked for every installer, because piece pay alone cannot show whether overtime is owed.
